Ready to take your career to the next level? We can help.

The MTNA Professional Certification Program is available to teachers with students of any age or ability level in private or group settings. The program is based upon a set of five standards defining what a competent music teacher should know and be able to do. Upon fulfillment of these standards, applicants are granted the MTNA Professional Certification credential with the designation, Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM).

To maintain the MTNA Professional Certification credential and designation, the NCTM must continue fulfilling the program's standards through the renewal process.

MSMTA supports certification

MSMTA supports teachers seeking MTNA professional certification by providing support and mentoring at the state and local levels. For application assistance, more information about the process of professional certification, or to find a certification mentor or support group in your area, contact Heidi Alteneder, NCTM, MSMTA Certification Chair.

"Getting my NCTM was one of the most rewarding projects I have done. It required me to evaluate my own teaching in a whole new way and to work through hypothetical problems that I had never considered before. I strongly encourage all teachers to work through certification as a self and professional development project and to seek out a mentor to guide and encourage you along the way."

- Heidi Alteneder, NCTM
